Share your hottie tips & tricks

OK girls, let's help each other out and SHARE some of our tips & tricks for lookin' G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! I'm sure everyone has things to add, and we can always learn a new trick or two, so don't be shy!

Nikki & Jill, I've seen you two up close & personal with regards to make up and stuff, so I wanna hear from ya!

I'll start off with a couple of things I do religiously.

TIP #1 - Get one of those fogless mirrors and do all your shaving in the shower. Legs, face, everywhere. The steam from the shower causes much less wear & tear on the skin and helps to give closer, smoother shaves.
When shaving the face, run as hot of water as you can stand and immerse your face. Then shave as normal. When done, turn off the hot water for a second or two and run just COLD water all over your face. It helps with any nicks or irritations and really refreshes and tightens up the pores after shaving.
Then once I'm finished showering, I'll draw a quick bath and toss in a bunch of bath oil beads. I give myself a 5-10 minutes soak to get the body extra soft & shiny! Then you don't need a body moisturizer afterwards, either.

Tip #2 - I'm not sure this will work for all skin types on the board, but if at all possible, check out Bare Escentuals make up. I was using Krylon Ultrafoundation for the longest time. It was heavy and would just almost melt off my face, especially the upper lip. Ask anyone who saw me in Vegas or LA, I always carried a fan of some sorts with me. I had to have the fan to try and keep my face dry so the make up wouldn't discolor. Then in Vegas this year, Cami & Alicia turned me on to Bare Escentuals, and it literally changed EVERYTHING for me!! It looks really natural, covers great, and it's really really light feeling on the skin! And best of all, GOODBYE FANS!! I don't need them at all anymore. My face can breathe now, and not feel like sealed up with liquid foundations. Oh, and it's the stuff that you can sleep in and it doesn't come off on the pillow. I swear, that is totally true!
Like I said, it may not work for everyone. I'm not sure how it would work on someone with a shadow, or if you put it over beard cover, but if you are ever able to experiment with it, DO IT!!!! I totally recommend it!
You can get a starter kit for like sixty bux, that comes with a dvd on how to use it, brushes, two tones of foundation, and some powders.

Alright girlie's, Let's hear some secrets. Share the wealth.

Very simple and short to suggest. After completing make-up application, take the lipstick color thats applied to the lips and make a 3/8" mark going from the cheek bone downward and stop 1" before the corner of the mouth. Brush to blend in, this lipstick is all you'll need later in the day to replenish the blush and lips.
Also as a final to applying make-up. Mac have a product called Fix It. Mist you face as a final sealer and it blends everything together. I can't go without this product, you'll be amazed.

Joanna,

Thanx baby! I think I'm gonna check out that Loreal advanced! Right now, I use Clinique SuperDefense, but it's $50 a jar, and I'd love something a lil less pricey.

Here is another tip...

Ya know the paper rings that you lay over the toilet seat in a public restroom? That paper is simply awesome for blotting your make up! It's actually the same as all those high priced make up blotting tissues. So next time you use the lil girl's room, remember to put a couple of extra sheets in your purse. I usually cut them into lil squares though, don't be pullin out a whole ring to blot your face!

Boy shorts and Thongs are awesome, I love them. A little tip, take a gaff and place inside the garment, center both items (garment and gaff) in front then lower the gaff so its not exposed to the naked eye. Now clamp together with a hair spring pin. Repeat on back side..Take your index finger both hands on each side (hip) of the panties and stretch until the two just meet together and the front and back center align. Now take a skirt hanger and clamp each end secure. Don't worry about the fabric thats on the outside of the hanger clamps that will be altered later. Now your looking at your future undergarment and you will fell so.....natural. Now what you need to do is take liquid stitch that you had already bought and have it open and ready. Now remove the clip from the front center of pantie, fold back the front top of the garment to expose the top stitching of the gaff. Now run a bead of adhesive between the stitching from one end of the hanger clamp to the other. Carefully place the boyshort back over the gaff then replace spring clip. From spring clip working out both left of and right of, place bobby pins approximately every half inch until you reach the hanger clamp.to secure the two garments for curing. Repeat back side. Let stand 24hrs. After 24hrs remove all pins and release from hanger. Now take one of the hip sections that is not glued and repeat process of gluing. After 24 hrs repeat other hip. When done an complete you are going to be so amazed. If any problem or questions I'm here for you girl friend. Warm Hugz n Kisses

Gina, a wonderful topic, How is this for a few tips, go check out a woman named Lucille Sorella. she is very helpful and has lots of knowledge in helping us be the woman we want to be.

also, Gina (Ginashothouse), as for your facial shaving. I have a little twist to that. I first start in the shower and make sure it is hot enough to get a good steam going, totally making sure my face is wet and moistened. then I step out and apply hot shaving lotion to my face and use a sharp razor, otherwise a dull razor will just nick and cut you, and shave one way, then reapply shaving lotion and while stretching my facial skin I will shave in the opposite direction. that gives me a very close shave, then I will use some lotion on my face.

Gina (Ginatgrl), thanks for your makeup tips, they are wonderful. I have seen many girls use their lipstick just like you mention. a great tip.

Bree..

tips ? hmmmmmmmmm
well, I guess this would be a tip, always use lip liner, not just lip color. It adds such POP! for such little extra effort.

Use the long lasting 8 hour lip colors rather than an ordinary stick. The long lasting colors really do work and its amazing what you can do while only causing minor damage to your lip look

If you hide/cover your brows, use a brow pencil and draw on a high, beautiful arched brow. Again, for the little bit of effort it really makes a big difference. ( make it realistic looking though, not one solid black line)
Even better than using an eyebrow pencil, get your own brows shaped. Now, you dont have to jump right into the deep end the first time. Any esthetician will be happy to take as little or as much as you feel comfortable with.
I GARE-RUN-TEE !!! , even in boy mode, its the kind of thing that people notice BUT DONT. It's like they'll say " hmmm, you look good, did you get a haircut?" or " you look different but I cant put my finger on what"
Each time you go, if you feel comfortable, you can thin and shape them more and more
You'll love the way it makes you look even when drab, it makes the eyes appear bigger, opens up your face and makes you look younger

This tip sounds pretty common sense, but being that I can often be a lil slow to pick up things, I just recently started using a light up make up mirror. What a difference it makes in my make up application. Go for a two sided one. One side normal, the other side magnified. I got one for about thirty bux and I just kick myself for not using one sooner. Doing my eyes with the magnified side took a lil getting used to, but is now a complete snap!

Get the book "Making Faces" by Kevyn Aucoin. You can find it for around twenty bux or less on line and I truly believe that any person who ever even thought about wearing make up should own this book. I just adore it, and I've really learned a lot of new tricks from it. It's really easy to follow his steps and there are tons and tons of visuals to help you along. It's a fabulous book, a must for all girls!!!!

i agree, gina..'making faces' is an excellent book!

a couple of tips:

#1 - buy a few fashion magazines and keep up to date with your style...it doesn't need to be expensive but looking like you just walked out of the 80's will not help your cause! you can also find lots of make-up tips, and products/colors (eg eyeshadow palattes) that you can just go and pick up knowing they will look good together

#2 if you're like me (linebacker shoulders) get the shoulder pads removed from your clothing

#3 do your eyes first before putting on foundation and dust a little loose powder on your cheeks before doing your eye make-up...it'll just brush away and take any eyeshadow free-fall with it!

#4 primers. as mentioned above, use primers for your eyes and face. i use smashbox foundation primer for my face and MAC bare canvas for my eyes!

#5 check online make-up tutorials...there are lots and they are really helpful. you tube has a bunch...eyes, lips, cleavage!!

#6 nikki...you are right on! for goodness sake, get your brows done! even it is just to clean them up a bit...mono-brow is not a good look for anyone, especially girls! on a side note, you can fill in your brows with eyeshadow if you're a blondie...i use MAC brun for mine! and don't be afraid of false eyelashes!

hope it helps!

false eyelashes are AMAZiNG !!!!!!
they are a little difficult to put on yourself without some practise, but find someone to help, they enhance your look Gorgeously !!!
even being enfemme all the time, for a special occasion I'll try to arrange for eyelashes
I prefer to spend the extra money at a salon and have them put on the higher quality lashes, but I can wear them for a week or two. If for just one night and have to remove them next morning, get the drug store variety

I'm glad this thread is taking off. I love the fact that we can all ask questions and get some help with problem issues.

Hottie,
Is there a lot of hair you are removing from the chest? If not, I'd say pluck those buggers. If there is too much for plucking, try Bikini Zone Anti-Bump Shave Gel. It's mild and works great for me. There is also a product called Bump Stop (I'm not 100% sure of the name, but it's ususally in the shaving cream section), it's made for african-american men, who can sometimes have a really tough time with bumpies.

Pinky, I'll give you the same advice. Try Bikini Zone Anti-Bump Shave Gel. I've found that the more you shave an area, the easier it and less irritated it becomes over time, so I'd say give the shave gel a try, and just keep a shavin!

This tip is along the lines of what Ash said about buying fashion mags to keep up with the latest trends in fashion. There is a great page called the fashion junkee. It keeps up with all the latest trends and offers links so you can actually buy the fashions they show, and they have really good prices!

Heather, there are salons that do waxing, facials, dying lashes or brows etc.etc etc etc Often nail salons do esthetics too. They'll "prune" your brows using tiny scissors and waxing.
They'll do your undersarms a whole lot cleaner than you could with a razor too.
It can be a little painful, but not as bad as they make out on 40 Year Old Virgin. As we've talked about before, "Sheeet ! if we can put up with electrolysis and laser, we can put up with a little waxing."
The cost is really pretty cheap, like to do eyebrows would likely be $10-$15, arm pits about the same.

That reminds me, another good tip, dying your lashes. Again a relatively cheap procedure ( $15 ) and another thing that gives you a younger look, bigger eyes, but that others find it hard to tell what youve done, so just as beneficial for your majority boy time as your minimal girl time.

Eric, be on the lookout for a deoderant called Springtime Secret that has a chemical in it that transdermally passes into the blood stream and affects the neurons of the medulla oblongota causing the user to lose their mind and babble uncontrollably.

Hmmmmmmm, what did you say the name of your deoderant was ?

seriously, folks
a REAL tip is ...... always , always , always have q-tips in your purse, they'll get you out of 1001 predicaments

WOW Joanna, that is a great idea. I usually apply coco butter once I get out of the shower. It smells good and feels good too. I will try the baby oil solution, especially on my legs and belly.

Wow, lots of great tips. The most important thing I did was getting the right concealer and foundation. Whenever I need help or have questions I just go to the MAC makeup counter @ Macys. I've always been treated well there. Also, if you ask, they sometimes have tips & tricks seminars.

Joanna brings up some awesome points. Howevah you decide to do it, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE! Do it on a daily basis if you can. My fave for face is Clinique Super Defense (for face), and for body, I'm loving Olay's Quench. (comes in the puprle bottle). Awesome stuff! But which ever way you decide to roll on this issue, just MOISTURIZE!!!

yeah, moisturize is an important key to soft skin. besides taking female hormones. I am trying the baby oil trick now and seeing how it goes. I put it on after showering and dry off naturally, then before I get dressed I apply coco butter lotion to my legs, ass and belly. It seems that my pantyhose are locking in the oil and butter on my legs and making them soft with a silky shine after I take them off. The only thing is, I have read before that mineral oil is not that good for your skin. It will actually dry out your skin rather than moisturize it. Maybe me using the coco butter with it helps, I dont know.

Another quick tip to help maintain the skin is to use a loofah while in the shower. Get rid of that dry nasty skin with a good scrubbing is great.

Two tips from me:

1. Use cream eyeliner with an angled brush. Pull the lid away from the eye when you apply it. I started using Smashbox cream eyeliner earlier this year and I was like, "Where the hell has THIS been all of my life?"

2. If you're in hot or humid surroundings, in order to keep your face from runnng down your face, get some unscented gel antiperspirant and apply it under your foundation. This WILL dry out your skin, so you'll need to moisturize later, preferrably after a hot night of partying.

Gina: I tried the Bare Essentials (and the similar Physicians Formula) mineral foundations. They felt great, but they didn't cover my beard shadow worth a crap. Alas. Lately, I've had great luck with MAC's Micronized Airbrush Foundation, though I apply it with a regular MAC foundation brush. I actually own an airbrush, but I put too many toxic chemicals through it to use it to apply make-up.

Cheers.

as an add-on to gina about exfoliation, you can get 'exfoliating gloves' at the body shop. just like a loofa, but in glove form!
you can get a really good scrub, and two hands are beter than one!

also, put lipstick on after you get dressed especially if it's a pull over top/dress...i learned that one the hard way after plastering a white silk top with fuscia lipstick(MAC hollywood nights-awesome!) ...grrr. but it's a lesson learned!
