Is it a fetish ?

Hmmm...I have felt for some time that i was born in the wrong ERA...As a in (you do the math..i was born in 1967 ) the late 70s i was listening to Bob Dylan..Mammas and Pappas...Neil Young....I wanted to look different and loved dancing so I was always looking like someone on the movie *Fame*..went to dance classes but Disco was something that came so naturally to me even before i started classes...Met the most handsome and biggest but coolest boy in the nearest town which was 20 miles away so lots of bus travelling for me between the first boy i kissed and thought i loved...dance classes and the roller disco where i was paid to do the tricky dance moves on 8 little wheels on the base of my feet to a very impressed audience of 9 yr olds...It;s where bad boy aka SPIKE spotted me but soon pushed me into his genre of dance which was breakdancing-hip hop- ...Imagine when i am asked what my fave songs are NOW and i reel off Bob Dylan *Blowing in the Wind*...Mammas & Pappas *Monday Monday* and Hill Gang *Rappers' Delight*...As well as Opera and Classical Music..Could it BE more eclectic But to be Spikes' Girl i had to dance as well as him then dance WITH HIM and we would perform bang in the centre of a packed saturday afternoon Town...I was 5ft 10 even back then which is NOT a breakdancers' friend but for Spike i would have done pretty much anything regardless of the fact that we just kissed each other on the cheek as i caught my bus home and did our own designed high five as each of us ended our routine and we would get a round of applause from a huge crowd of an audience...It's hard to even fathom how on earth i could be that bendy and could spin on my head etc but i know if i so much as attempted it today instead of doing what we did on strategic linoleum laid on a concrete pedestrian town center...needed to be slippy and slidey...I would now need a 20 x 20 foot taped together tena lady pads and that would be saturated by leakages if i so much as attempted a head stand...no other moves and i would need a St Johns ambulance on standby in readiness for an imminent mini-stroke and would be in a FULL body cast by 10pm ....Jesus where was i..this wasn't about Spike and me being like a colander on 2 legs when it comes to body fluids leaking for no reason....AH yes...one word...BAKERLITE .........My love for Bakerlite vintage things is off the chart..so it could be deemed as a fetish surely So wonder whether anyone on here actually dresses or become aroused when touching and feeling that distinctive Bakerlite hardened coated plastic...I could show off and give you the official fancy material which is...."polyoxybenzylmethyleneglycolanhydride was the first plastic made from synthetic components. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from a condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde."but it feels like toughened plastic but never feels like a cheap shit plastic .....I have had a Bakerlite Wall Phone for a few now..which is classed as working order (HeidiLou Babyboo you are sounding like an anorak wearing saddo train spotter ffs )....but being SO working order means that the rotary dial is as smooth as it gets and there is NO damage whatsoever..it is HUGE and as strong as i am..i can hardly lift it with one hand...but it is in effect a PROP but a genuine prop...Recently i decided to start a mission of finding a genuine..pristine condition,,and WORKING Bakerlite Alarm clock for my vintage themed bedroom (which NOONE commented on so i sure as shit am not expecting any response to this Blog unless there is another weirdo obsessed by all things Bakerlite like me....and after many hours looking..THERE it appeared...more special than i could have wished for as it was bought from new in Paris so the writing on the clock is french and after buying it from a lovely fellow vintage fan we were BOTH frantic that it would survive the postal system...something so rare and precious and 100 yrs being tossed around a postal depot without a care or conscience ....but it arrived in one piece...PHEW..but after winding it up...no ticking and no movement whatsoever...so regardless of my heavy heart...i kept it near me next to the laptop...i kept looking at it...and smiling at it...and said aloud *Ya know...I love you whether you work or not..you've been making various people happy for over 100 which is something i won't ever achieve so you REST now..you will still be admired and see me smile each morning when i turn over in bed and see you there...my adoration of you is and will be unconditional you beautiful gem*....(Is it ANY wonder really that single when now just looking at an clock is the thing that makes me excited in bed )....I shifted my focus back on to the Veteran related email i was sending and by the time i was typing the second word...it started ticking...i daren't move incase it stopped but it had come alive...I think maybe because it realised how much i admired and respected it whether it worked or not..and it has kept perfect time since and the alarm is loud enough to evacuate ANY building of all occupants or workers ......so here are pics of the Bakerlite wall phone i bought from a German collector and the newest arrival and newest part of my homely cosy vintage home.......Isn't it a BEAUT considering it's over 100 yrs and has been bought from a collector whilst she was in Paris and has made it to me in perfect working order...total CLASS .......P.S The underneath and back of clock pics are for annoyance purposes only !!!

Here in the US, it is called Bakelite. Common usuage in WWII and up to the 60's and a bit later. I am currently on the hunt for Rickenbacker "frying pan" lap steel guitar. Many of the ones made by Rickenbacker and others companies had Bakelite parts.

We had ATT Bakelite phones in the house (different style than yours) from the 50's and 60's.

During the Disco Ere, I mostly installed sound systems in the LA area. I did not learn Disco dancing stuff until the 90;s and even a bit of Hip Hop. But never really good at either. Lots of Disco moves came from earlier swing dances. Like you I am rusty as can be with dancing. No venues or partners around. I miss dancing, but not the bakelite or another early plastic used for dining plates, bowls and such, Melamine.
