Rememberance Day.... Had a chat with some Veteran buddies on Sunday and i finally admitted to totally hating the day...said we remember the sacrifices made...who gave their all....the serving Queen and Country thing most days not just on ONE day...i was worried about saying it out loud but each year we sit there with faces like slapped arses and not saying much...it's not a day where we feel we can smile or laugh or anything but be solemn and heavy hearted....but to my surprise they totally agreed and said they wish they had just stayed at home and just be miserable THERE alone all day rather than be in the annual parade etc......and i worked out WHY we were all feeling the same but it took one of us to actually bring it up and discuss it...... For Veterans it's not *Rememberance day*....it's *REMINDER DAY*...and we sure as shit don't need any more reminders that we already have....So it all made sense and it was a wordless no explaination needed agreement...one where we will not repeat something we have done religiously each year...We silently thank every warrior before us and the ones who have served after us...We don't need to be SEEN to be respectfull and thankful to them...it's inside us each and every day...and NEVER leaves our hearts. It was like progress...A time to change something we have always felt we were doing for others to SEE...when we really shouldn't give a crap whether they see us doing what's expected from them or not...we should only DO what feels right for US...which is what we shall do from here on in . {Blog Lotuslower1} {image} The very REAL Geeijane so f**k off Demi |

I can appreciate what you say about reminder day. Probably the same everywhere. We honor all who have marched in previous parades and those who recently served. If you were in combat/difficult institution who wants to relive it. I would imagine most want to move on from horrible memories. Honoring the dead, I suppose help the families who have grieved. Perhaps not . Politicians like to use days like this to drum up Patriotism and often support for Military Procurement pans or to justify some War........which is from time to time through history proven to be folly when directed by politicians and not trained Generals and others military minds. Or as a distraction for other issues. Anyway, you have a good perspective on such days. "One Big Sky Covers Us All Equally"

I think for me, these days are to remember and respect those who chose to serve. I have family and friends who have served. I can remember the day I chose NOT to serve and took another path. We must also teach the next generation to respect people who are willing to do the things they won't so they can have the life they want.

wars are not heroic. people who are in wars wars commonly are, but that says more about the goodness in us all, rather than coming from war itself.

Lotus I think we must always Honour and remember those who fought for us! I agree that it can be uncomfortable and it is good to express our feelings.... A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw Jenny
